2014 Sports Day: Competing, Cheering, and More ‹ BACK
On the 17th and 18th of September, 2014, thanks to the grace of God amidst the approaching typhoon, the 55th annual Sports day of Methodist College was successfully held at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground. All members of the school took part in this event to show their passion and effort. Though the Typhoon Kalmaegi “attacked”, our guest Reverend Chan Tak Cheong said in the opening ceremony, “It’s raining outside, but with us at this sports ground, sunny days will always be here.” Our principal, Ms Wong, also praised God for the lovely weather as a blessing on Sports Day.

On the sports ground
Stirring competitions between our school’s young athletes lasted for two days of heat and finals. They amazed the spectators with their outstanding performances on the track and field. No matter winning or losing, high jump or shot put, athletes achieved brilliant results and won tons of applause. During the games, they showed us skill, speed, strength and teamwork. Surely, they gained power from their sweat and experience from their tears. These will most definitely be shown in their next performances.

On the stadium
Students from different houses came early to decorate the stadium, making the stadium a garden blossoming with flowers of different colors. Different houses showed people their determination, creativity and vitality. Showcasing their strength and team spirit, Blue House (Yi Sheh) beat the other houses and became the champion of the cheering competition. There were medalists from all houses in different events. “No matter we won or not, deep inside our heart, we know we are all winners,” said a group of competitors joining the 1500-meter run.
The highlight of the day was that towards the end of the last day, all houses made up slogans off the cuff to cheer for their school, Methodist College. People shouted in unity and their mood was elevated. At that time, there was no cheering competition, no different houses or grades, only Methodist College, our big family.

The Sports day rounded off with an encouraging speech by our principal and our guest alumnus at the closing ceremony, announcing the end of our successful and spectacular event.
