Exchange Program at Rydal Penrhos School, Wales ‹ BACK
Our school is always delighted to see students grow into better leaders after participating in exchange programmes. This year, 29 students and I paid a visit to Rydal Penrhos School in North Wales, England, from 25/1- 4/2. After these mere 9 days, we put ourselves outside our comfort zones and each discovered our inner strengths.

The lessons we had were Religious Studies, Musical Theater and English. We were exhilarated but nervous after learning that we would be performing a musical for some of the local students but we all immersed ourselves in the process and the amazing music. In the end, our efforts didn't go to waste. We also had a tour of Colwyn Bay, where the school is located, and enjoyed the breathtaking views.

Of course, learning about the local history was indispensable too so we visited one of the World Heritage Sites, the Conwy Castle, with the history of Edward I's conquest of Wales lingering inside our minds as we walked inside the castle remains.

After that, we travelled to Manchester and Chester, where we went on a trip with the boarders to celebrate the Chinese New Year and wandered in the Chester Cathedral. It made a deep impression by having us walk 200 plus steps of spiral staircases to the top, which was torture for some of us. However, the rooftop view of one city, two countries, and five counties was worth it. We all felt the thousands of years' of history of it seeping through the walls. For Manchester, some of us went to the Manchester Football museum and Museum of Science and Industry. They were indeed eye-opening.

Back to school, we enjoyed a day with our buddies and accompanied them to their lessons. We were separated into two groups and went on field trips in Geography, History lessons. We thought it was a different and fun way to approach learning.

Last but not least, the heaven for Manchester United fans -Manchester United Stadium- we paid a visit there before our departure. The football fans among us were very excited.

We all had the chance to polish our English proficiency, get to know new people, expand our knowledge and learn to be independent. The things that this trip brought to us will never be forgotten.

Special thanks to Mr. Kwan, Benji and two Ms. Lees. This trip will never be this fun and successful without you. Mike and Susan, thank you for your patience and time. Mr. Smith, we are thankful for the chance to experience the Rydal Penrhos school life. Thanks to our awesome buddies for their kindness and assistance. Ms. Jones, the staff and students at Rydal Penrhos, we appreciate the occasional ‘Ni haos,' ‘ Zou Tous' and smiles. We look forward to seeing you all again. Lastly, thank you to our school for giving students a chance to explore more on English and the world.
